[He's not a big fan of emotional advertisement, especially on the grounds that Someone's Always Watching in the Fleet, but Steve's tone is warm around the edges.]
Been here for about a week. Anything on your end to report?
[At first, Wanda doesn't respond right away. She had already had her run in with the man she had thought was Steve Rogers, but he turned out to be someone far different from the Captain America she had come to know. This time though, this voice and this face... yes, it had to be him this time. Either that or Atroma was playing a rather cruel prank on her. Both seemed equally plausible. Eventually though, she does click on the communicator feed. She looks nonchalant, but internally she is hoping that this time it really is a familiar face that recognizes her. Although she is more or less trying to hide her emotions on her face, her sarcastic tone and attempt at humor hint at what she's feeling inside.]
You mean besides suddenly finding myself on some weird, outer-space reality show? No. Not much to report.
[A brief pause, and then he reaches up to rub a hand along his jaw. The transition from Cap to Steve Rogers is a smooth one, barely perceptible, but he's willing to bet Wanda gets it. She's been in his head, after all.]
[She adds as an attempt at some humor, but she winces a little as she realizes that the comment might be a bit too on the nose, considering her history in interacting with the Avengers.]
[ merry christmas, wanda! in the morning, she'll find a small wrapped package addressed to her. inside are: one hair comb decorated with redpaperflowers that might look a little bit worn in some areas if she looks closely (she tried, ok), four bobby pins (made with souji's help, most likely), and a handmade christmas card. ]
[At first, when Wanda wakes up, she doesn't the presents right away. Mostly because she just wasn't expecting to receive anything at all. Sure, she knew it was Christmas, but it was a holiday that, for the most part, would simply come and go for Wanda without much celebration. Sure, Peitro and her would manage to scrounge (or steal) up modest gifts for each other, but otherwise Christmas was just another day for her.]
[However, she does eventually notice the wrapped packages left for her. She eyes them curiously, trying to determine who they came from and what they were for. She is, at first, a little dubious about the wrapped gifts as they are likely another offering from her "sponsors" or Atroma.]
[However, when Wanda starts to open the gifts, she realizes that these are not the typical trinkets and outfits that she has typically received from her sponsors in the past. These were thoughtful, hand-crafted little gifts that were honestly rather touching and beautiful.]
[Wanda was especially fond of the bobby pins with the red, paper-crafted flowers on them. In fact, she immediately slips two of them into her hair. Checking in a mirror to see how they looked, smiling and blushing at how beautiful and sweet these little gifts were.]
[Curious now to know who they were from, Wanda spies the card and opens it.]
[Wanda reads Nanako's handmade Christmas card and even begins to tear up at how sweet and thoughtful this gesture was from her. Slightly overcome with a sense of guilt for having not thought to get something for the young girl herself. Wanda decides that she needs to go out and get something for the girl. And she needs to do it today! Wanda quickly gets dressed in some winter clothes, and heads for one of the Starstruck's shuttles to travel planetside. She is determined to get Nanako a Christmas present now.]
[As she sets the autopilot to take her down to the planet, Wanda punches in a message to Nanako in her communicator. At the very least, she wanted to let the girl know how grateful she was for the presents.]
Nanako, I got your Christmas presents. That was very sweet of you to have gotten me something. They were beautiful gifts too. Thank you.
[Wanda, for her own part, had also somewhat retreated in on herself. She'd stopped running courier jobs on the space station, and had taken to barely leaving her room on the Starstruck. She'd thought that she'd be numb to this kind of thing by now. But no, all Souji's leaving had done was to tear her heart out all over again. She'd long run out of tears, but the ache in her chest had not diminished.]
[When she sees Nanako's text though, she feels a sense of guilt come over her. In her pain, she had forgotten about the poor girl. Souji's family, also undoubtedly hurting from his departure. She reaches over to her communicator and sends a text back.]
Nanako, I-
[The message stops, no backspace though. Instead, she enters a new line and starts over.]
There's some coffee mugs big bro left behind I can't drink that much coffee so Would you like one of them?
[ in truth, nanako can't bear to see so much of them. all the small trinkets her and souji had taken the time to collect, now left behind forever. will souji still remember them? she doesn't know, and she's not sure if she wants to know. ]
[Nanako... Wanda's touched, honestly. She recognizes that it must be hard for her, still being that ship that she and Souji had shared together. She can feel tears that she thought had long since dried up starting to build again. However, she shakes them back, clears her throat and quickly types her response.]
I'm writing you to tell you that Natasha has left the fleet, if you are not already aware of that. A couple of months ago, she wrote letters to those she was closest to and told me where to find them should she leave before I did. One of the envelopes is addressed to you. Please let me know a good time and place for us to meet so I can deliver it to you.
[Wanda had suspected that something like this was coming. She had been seeing less and less of Jim and Natasha as time went on. While she stayed in touch with them both, there was definitely the hint of something on the horizon, a separation. Still, to lose another person that she held so close and dear, it certainly still stung. She does not respond to Beverly's message right away, as she takes some time to sort herself and then responds with a text of her own.]
I have time now, if you are available. If not, I can make time tomorrow afternoon.
